What is SCYP? Sustainable City Year Program is a university-community connection where cities work with universities to “matchmake” community needs (as determined by someone in city management) to university expertise. The matchmaking is done by someone on campus once the needs of the city are determined.
What is our Project? We were given a task to rebrand the City of Seaside by city officials. They shared with us a few goals that they had. They wanted us to figure out a way to bring the city together and give the community a new sense of pride in where they live. Environmental Studies Major: The environmental studies major at California State University of Monterey Bay provides the educational background in environmental science, social science, economics, policy, humanities, and communication in order to promote sustainability in an extremely diverse world. The course work prepares students to view and understand all perspectives on the issues behind environmental preservation and the delicate balance between humans and the planet.
Goals of Capstone Class: The ultimate goal of the Sustainable City Year Capstone class is to provide the city of Seaside with a concrete identity. We hope to achieve this by empowering the people of Seaside by listening to the concerns, goals, and needs of the locals and doing our best to enact the change they hope to see.
